"I Want Alpha Tau to Stay Strong"

Thanks to Kurt von Borries ’80 for participating in this feature Q&A. He recalls his best Kappa Sig memories, updates us on his life today, and shares why he gives back to the Alpha Tau Chapter.

What is your best memory from your fraternity days?
Initiation was very challenging, and when it was over I really felt great to be a part of something that would last a lifetime.

Why did you join Kappa Sig during your college years? What is the biggest thing you feel you learned from your fraternity experience?
I'm a legacy. My father took me by the house during my college visit.  The brothers were nice to me, in particular Andy Phelps ’76.  It seemed essential to join a Fraternity to get a full college experience.
I learned to grow up much quicker being in a fraternity.  The fraternity also provided the building blocks for my development as a leader in life.  My life has been full with many leadership roles in charitable organizations.

How would your life be different if you had never joined Kappa Sig?
I would probably be living in Kentucky with a boring job and boring life.

Name three brothers you’d like to reconnect with.
Elwin Rozyskie, Jim Dallam (my Big Brother), and Steve Ball (pledge Brother).

What’s new in your life today?
I am retired from real estate and involved in several charitable organizations, in particular, I'm President of my Rotary Club.  I've always been single, but still looking.

Why do you financially support Kappa Sigma in your alumni years?
I want Alpha Tau to stay strong, so other students can benefit from the fraternity experience.  Over the years I have told other Tech alums that I'm a Kappa Sigma and the response has been one of respect, the chapter has a good reputation on campus and its members have been outstanding people.
